Manchester United bizarrely turned down potential £95million double transfer

Manchester United were reportedly approached by Tottenham over transfer interest in Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose this summer.

Despite this, the Red Devils gave Spurs a firm ‘no’ in response to the question over whether they had any interest in signing either player, thought to be valued at a combined £95million, according to the Daily Mirror.

This doesn’t look too good for Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward’s relationship, with the report claiming the latter told his manager he wouldn’t sanction spending £50m or more for a player of Rose’s age.

The Mirror add that Alderweireld was never a prime target for MUFC, who preferred Leicester City’s Harry Maguire instead.

As CaughtOffside revealed earlier this week, Mourinho was later baffled by the fact that Woodward never made more progress on signing Maguire given he’d vetoed the manager’s other targets.

It was certainly a difficult summer at Old Trafford and the club have made a poor start in the Premier League, earning an unconvincing 2-1 win over Leicester City, followed by a dismal showing in a 3-2 defeat away to Brighton.

United take on Tottenham next and urgently need a win to avoid further talk of a meltdown at the club.
