Despite their FA Cup loss to Man United over the weekend, Liverpool are still chasing glory on three fronts as well as working hard behind the scenes to be ready for Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of the season.
The German has defined an era at the club, and if he’s able to triumph in the Europa League he will have won every trophy the club have entered under his stewardship at least once.
There are a number of strong teams that will be standing in his way including Bayer Leverkusen, who are looking in ominous form at present.
The Germans will have to overcome Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, West Ham United, to make it to the semi-finals at least.
Were they to then defeat Milan or Roma and the Reds can overcome Atalanta and then either Benfica or Marseille in the semi-finals, a classic final could await.
Liverpool want Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie
In that eventuality, the rumour mill would go into overdrive given that Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, will be up against one of his old teams and a possible future employer.
It’s Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie that Liverpool are intending to step up their long held interest in too.
According to HITC, the Reds have been following the 22-year-old for two years and they now seem ready to test the resolve of both player and club.
Were Alonso to be the man to take over from Klopp, any move for Hincapie could be said to be easier to achieve than if the Spaniard either stays at Leverkusen or moves elsewhere.
