“There was no player power” exclaimed Ray Wilkins, as Phil Scolari trudged towards the Stamford Bridge exit door with a multi-million pound pay cheque in his back pocket. However, there were clearly some glum faces in the Chelsea dressing room while the Brazilian was in charge, with this player revealing a happier state of affairs under their new gaffer. No love lost between Scolari and this Chelsea striker: The latter blamed for Manchester United defeat!

Since Phil Scolari was axed as manager of the Blues, there have been all sorts of rumours about dressing room unrest, with certain players allegedly having a ‘hotline’ to the man upstairs (Roman Abramovich rather than God), thus helping to oust the Brazilian from his post recently. It seems that there might be some truth in these rumours, especially with this forward clearly happy to see the back of the former Portugal coach. [Read the rest of this entry »]

The Red Devils have a chance to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League, a gap which will be hard to bridge for second-placed Liverpool. Fergie reckons that the Merseyside club are the only ones who can stop United from landing a third consecutive title, with the Scot critical of Chelsea’s decision to part company with the man known as ‘Big Phil’. This time a week ago, Phil Scolari was manager of Chelsea FC. Since then, he has been axed by Roman Abramovich, with Guus Hiddink brought in as temporary gaffer. The Blues made hard work of beating Watford on Saturday, although the team selection contradicted a claim that the Brazilian made last week about a certain striker pairing… [Read the rest of this entry »]

With 70 minutes on the clock at Vicarage Road last Saturday, it appeared as though Chelsea’s season was in danger of hitting a new slump. Defeat at home to Burnley in the Carling Cup was humiliating, while the Blues have been labouring in the Premier League since the turn of the new year. However, the Premier League giants turned this round against Watford, and this Chelsea man now reckons there will no stopping his team. [Read the rest of this entry »]

‘No player power at Chelsea’ claims coach: But did troublesome trio force Scolari out?

by stresster on February 13th, 2009 no comments

While the board, coaches and players shed tears for the departed Phil Scolari this week, many of them are of the crocodile variety. Oh boo hoo, some of the players cry, despite the fact that surely not every squad member saw eye to eye with the Brazilian. Indeed, it has been claimed that Roman Abramovich’s decision to axe Big Phil was influenced by three senior players. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Goodbye to moneybags Chelsea? Blues set to become a selling club!

Despite Phil Scolari claiming that Chelsea currently have a bureaucratic team (whatever that means), and that the sale of Arjen Robben along with the failure to snare Robinho means that they apparently haven’t got any flair players, it appears as though the club are in rush to but any crowd-pleasers. While Phil Scolari was sacked as manager on Monday, this latest piece of news suggests that the writing was on the wall for some time. It has already transpired that the Brazilian was ready to call it a day on two separate occasions before being given the axe, and he’s now lifted the lid on his struggle at Stamford Bridge. Are these THREE PLAYERS responsible for Scolari being sacked by Chelsea?

by stresster on February 12th, 2009 3 comments

There appears to be division within the ranks at Stamford Bridge, with Guus Hiddink needing to immediately address the dressing room factions which he has inherited. It appears as though Roman Abramovich consulted a number of players before making the decision to sack Phil Scolari, with three names coming out as those who no longer wanted the Brazilian as manager.

The Daily Telegraph has already reported the words of John Terry, stating the below:

Terry alluded to internal problems that need addressing. “The overall picture needs to be looked at,” he said. “The powers at the club need to look at that.”

Does the Chelsea captain mean that the likes of Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack have too much sway when it comes to making major decisions? In the case of the goalkeeper, the rumours surrounding his disdain for Scolari have not been quietened by the Telegraph also reporting that his mentor has been scathing of the former Blues manager.

He said: “I think the directors have taken many factors into consideration in making this decision. Chelsea are falling behind in the league but they are still in the European Cup and there is a very important game with Juventus coming up.

“They had to react. Maybe the management did not work with the players in place. There were worries about athletic preparation and our position in comparison with the players we have was not normal. I do not see how we could continue in that direction. Like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United, Chelsea need to be top.

While Cech vociferously denies any part in Scolari’s downfall, the above statement certainly brings his loyalty into question. Do Chelsea supporters believe that he, Drogba and Ballack essentially hammered the final nail into the coffin as far as Big Phil was concerned?

To nobody’s great surprise, Chelsea announced that Guus Hiddink will take temporary charge of the first team between now and the end of the season. Chelsea manager ‘wanted to leave twice’ before being sacked!

According to this source, Phil Scolari might have left Stamford Bridge earlier, had he been given the chance. There were two matches which left the Brazilian feeling so low that he was ready to hand in his resignation, which perhaps illustrates that the former Chelsea manager just couldn’t handle the pressure of managing a big club. It looks for all the world as if Roman Abramovich, Bruce Buck and Peter Kenyon didn’t have an immediate replacement lined up when Phil Scolari was sacked on Monday. It appears as though it’s going to be history repeating, with Chelsea essentially bringing in an interim replacement for the Brazilian until the summer, by which point they will hopefully have secured Champions League football next season. Five into four doesn’t go! What order will Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal finish in?

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich apparently got rid of Phil Scolari due to a fear of not qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Whether or not the Russian couldn’t cope with the idea of not competing in Europe’s elite club competition, or whether they simply need the millions each club receives for playing in the competition, failure simply isn’t an option in his eyes. Will the club manage to stay in the top four of the Premier League this season? [Read the rest of this entry »]

Chelsea front-runner ‘interested’ in manager position: Are supporters interested in him?

Ray Wilkins has become the Blues’ fourth manager in five seasons, and while the man they call Butch will only be in charge for a matter of days, the Chelsea manager’s position is fast becoming a poisoned chalice. Roman Abramovich has shown that he’s not prepared to accept a handful of poor results, especially if it signals the prospect of the club going without silverware. Scolari sacked as Chelsea manager! Who saw this one coming?

Goodness me, two Premier League managers axed in a day! The writing was on the wall for Tony Adams on Monday morning, although nobody expected ‘Big’ Phil Scolari to be sent packing by the Chelsea board. OK, so the Blues have been struggling of late, but even Avram Grant had until the end of the season before he exited Stamford Bridge. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Chelsea players apologise to supporters after latest hiccup

by stresster on February 9th, 2009 4 comments

Although Manchester City are now termed as ‘the world’s richest club’, it’s Chelsea who have the most expensively-assembled squad in the Premier League. However, despite the presence of Nicolas Anelka, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Michael Ballack featuring for the Blues at home to Hull City on Saturday, they couldn’t find a way past a modest City outfit. Indeed, the visitors had chance to win the game, with a couple of players all apologies after a result which effectively rules them out of the title race. [Read the rest of this entry »]

My, how the tables have turned. In the eyes of Chelsea supporters, butter wouldn’t have melted in the mouth of Phil Scolari back in September, but a run of disappointing performances and results have left the Blues’ title hopes dangling by a thread. Does anyone think they can win the Premier League title from this position? [Read the rest of this entry »]
