Sunderland manager Roy Keane has confessed that he is fan of his former Manchester United team mate Diego Forlan.
Okay, so what? But listen to this now. Keane also says that he would like to sign Forlan from his current club Atletico Madrid in the summer and maybe this is stretching th dream a bit too far for anyone’s liking!
Keane says:
I think we got linked with Diego last summer as well.
As much as I think he’s a top player, I think the priority for us at the moment is to stay in the Premier League.
We have a few targets which we’ll hopefully bring into the club in the summer, but obviously that will all depend on what league we’re in.
But we still believe we will be in the Premier League, and if I was told that Diego was available then maybe I would be interested.
Now why on earth would the Uruguyan international return to the Premiership and that too to play for Sunderland, a club that should, miracles barring, play in the Championship next season. Atleti are on course to finish in the top six in La Liga this season and this will give them the chance to play in next season’s UEFA Champions League and I don’t think that Forlan is that insane to trade Champions League football for relegation battles.
