It appears that Rafael Benitez is going around his squad players, slapping large price tags on their head. Firstly, he started asking clubs to stump up £15million for the services of Peter Crouch. Then the Spaniard wanted £10million for Scott Carson. The Liverpool Daily Post now report that Xabi Alonso is yours for £16million, will there be any takers?
Juventus director Jean-Claude Blanc was in Liverpool on Tuesday for a meeting with Anfield officials to discuss a number of transfer options, with Alonso top of the Italians’ wanted list.
Alonso insists he’s happy at Anfield, despite slipping down the pecking order last season with the arrival of Javier Mascherano. It’s clear that the fans would like him to stay at the club, although Benitez also needs to balance the books and ensure he recoups some of the money that’s going to be lavished on summer signings. Will the Spaniard have to start reducing these price tags to sell off players that are surplus to requirements?
