As both north London sides contemplate life without their leading frontmen, one target makes it clear he would consider a move down south!
Roque Santa Cruz has told Paul Ince, his new manager at Blackburn Rovers, that he wants to leave for a bigger club, which has alerted Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, both of whom are planning for next season without their existing lead strikers.
Arsenal are prepared to cash in on Emmanuel Adebayor, who has attracted interest from Milan and Barcelona, and Tottenham are demanding as high a price as possible for Dimitar Berbatov, who is intent on leaving. Manchester United have tracked the Bulgarian since last summer and are confident of securing his signature. They have had an opening offer of £20m rebuffed but David Gill, the chief executive who will oversee the final push for the club’s only serious summer target, will return with an improved bid which is expected to force Tottenham’s hand.
The Paraguay international insists that he will continue to give his all but if a substantial bid were to come in he would not appreciate the club standing in his way.
“Many said my transfer to a bigger club was impending but I am used to this now and my attention is focused on Blackburn,” he said. “I am happy for the great season that I had, the important goals I scored for a small club. I am motivated by the interest of other clubs but I repeat, if I do not leave, the plan is to have a better season with Blackburn.” (The Guardian)
Such drama this transfer window. So if Roque does leave Ewood Park, and it appears by his comments that he is receptive to the possibility, then where is the better option for the Paraguayan? The 18m-rated striker had previously stated no desire to leave Blackburn Rovers, but all the signs seem to point to a potential exit after this latest interview. Do Arsenal and Spurs fans see Santa Cruz as an adequate replacement for either Adebayor or Berbatov?
