Chelsea’s 5-0 thrashing of Boro over the weekend proved that the Stamford Bridge club didn’t need a full strength squad to get by during the rough times. With a big match this weekend against Liverpool, Chelsea were hoping to add a player or two from their MASH unit back to the starting XI. They’ll get their wish as a certain striker is set to make his return early!
Didier Drogba could make a surprise return against Liverpool next Sunday.
It was initially feared the Chelsea striker would be out until the middle of next month after suffering knee ligament damage in the Champions League game with Cluj a fortnight ago.
But Drogba has made excellent progress and although Wednesday’s match with Roma is too soon, the Ivory Coast international could feature in the Premier League’s clash of the top two at Stamford Bridge.
Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari said: ‘In a week I should have Drogba — and that’s something I’m happy about.’ (Daily Mail)
This is HUGE news for Chelsea. They have been fine against the mid-table clubs; but when you play the top four, you always want to have your big guns on the pitch. After watching Zaki abuse Daniel Agger over the weekend, you can imagine Drogba will be hoping to do the same thing.
