Carrow Road club step up striker chase.
Norwich City have stepped up their chase of £12million rated Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel as manager Chris Hughton looks to make a breakthrough in the transfer market.
Hughton has been desperate to bring in a frontman to halt the club’s slide down the Premier League table and has had two bids for Celtic forward Gary Hooper rejected and an offer for Swansea City striker Danny Graham turned down.
Queens Park Rangers forward Jamie Mackie has been linked with a move to Carrow Road, but Dutch international Van Wolfswinkel is Hughton’s main priority heading into the final two days of the transfer window.
The 24-year-old Van Wolfswinkel joined Sporting Lisbon from FC Utrecht last summer over a move to the Premier League.
Asked about the interest in Van Wolfswinkel, Hughton told Sky Sports: “Yes, I have seen those reports on him and there is an interest from ourselves but how far that interest has gone from us I don’t know. But certainly there is an interest.”
