Chelsea are being strongly linked with interest in Sampdoria’s up and coming forward Mauro Icardi and could well see the young Argentine as one for the future.

Roman Abramovich has already begun to build for the future, investing £80m+ on six new players last summer all of whom were under the age of 23, and now the West London club are of many clubs scouting the 20 year old forward according to TuttoSport.

Though Sampdoria paid Barcelona just £350k for Icardi in the summer this source believes his value to have shot up to £10m due to the instant impact he has had at the Genoa based club. Having failed to make the grade at the Nou Camp the Catalan club are now apparently once again interested in the speedy striker and AC Milan and Juventus are also monitoring the forward.

Chelsea will hope to beat off other sides in the pursuit of the Rosario born striker who has managed six goals in his last five Serie A appearances, perhaps most impressively also netting twice at Juventus before following this effort up with a four goal haul against Pescara.

Given the Barcelona connection and the fact that he hails from the same birthplace as the Four time World Footballer of the Year, Icardi has been dubbed the ‘New Messi‘ and is a player who Roman Abramovich may see as a potential long term spearhead for the Chelsea attack, a possible focal point to place in front of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar, and Abramovich certainly has the funds to fight any bidding war that could ensue this summer.
