The Daily Star believes that Chelsea are ready to offload Belgian international youngster Kevin De Bruyne this summer despite having not even handed the player a single appearance.

Chelsea paid £6.7m to bring the attacker from Genk in January 2012, opting to loan De Bruyne back to Genk for the remainder of last term before sending him on a season long loan spell to Werder Bremen.

Now a host of German top tier sides are keen on the 21 year old, including Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg, their interest is hardly surprising given the impact the youngster has made in Germany.

De Bruyne is one of the Bundesliga top assist makers this term, indeed only Hannover’s Szabolcs Huszti and a trio of Bayern Munich stars have laid on more assists. The Blues starlet has also registered six goals of his own and may well be keen to remain away from Chelsea in preference to warming the Stamford Bridge bench.

Leverkusen lead the chase as Chelsea may elect to use De Bruyne as a makeweight in a move to sign long term target Andre Schurrle, 22.

Unsurprisingly Werder Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin wants to keep the Chelsea man, stating:

“We have made no secret of our interest to keep Kevin. We are the right club for him.”
