Serie A side hoping to persuade England midfielder to move to Italy.
Napoli are planning an ambitious bid for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard according to Tutto Mercato Web.
The England midfielder has been in fine form for his club this season and is currently the team’s top goal scorer in the Premier League.
But Lampard’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the current season and the club have shocked their fans by failing to offer Lampard new terms.
It is thought the Lampard would be kept on at the club should Jose Mourino return to manage the side this summer but Chelsea are in no rush to renew the player’s contract and that could present the possibility of Lampard leaving on a free transfer.
Reports in recent months have linked Lampard with a string of Europe’s top sides, including Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus.
LA Galaxy are also thought to be ready to tempt Lampard to MLS with a lucrative retirement package.
Napoli now appear ready to join the race for the player’s signature and are monitoring the player’s availability.
The club are keen to bring in a marquee signing to appease the club’s fans who are facing up to the prospect of star striker Edinson Cavani departing the Serie A side this summer.
