Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has denied reports that the club are in talks with Belgian striker Christian Benteke over a new deal according to Sky Sports.

Benteke has been the star of Aston Villa’s season after netting an impressive 15 goals during his debut season in the Premier League.

Villa have much to thank the Belgian for as they would surely be in a far more precarious position were it not for his firepower.

Benteke’s performances have not gone unnoticed with a number of top sides reportedly considering making a summer bid for the striker.

Tottenham and Chelsea are thought to be ready to make an approach to Villa for Benteke while Inter Milan are also monitoring his availability.

That prompted reports that Villa were in talks with Benteke over a new deal as they look to persuade the striker to commit his future to the club.

It was suggested that the Birmingham club were ready to double Benteke’s current wages to £40,000 a week in an attempt to persuade him his future lies at Villa.

But Villa boss Lambert has denied that the two parties are in talks over a new deal insisting Benteke is happy at the club regardless.
