Eden Hazard has leapt to the defence of his Chelsea team mate Fernando Torres according to talkSport.

Hazard has expressed his belief that Torres will remain at the club beyond the current season and will go one to prove his critics wrong.

Torres has struggled for form since arriving from Liverpool for a record £50 million during the 2011 January transfer window.

The forward hit an impressive 81 goals in three and a half seasons at Anfield but has managed a paltry return of just 31 in 120 games at Stamford Bridge.

The player’s continued poor form has reportedly persuaded the Chelsea hierarchy to write off the signing and re-invest in the transfer market this summer.

That has prompted speculation linking the Stamford Bridge side with a number of Europe’s top strikers.

Napoli’s Edinson Cavani has been mentioned and has a release clause in his contract thought to be around the £53 million mark.

Atletico Madrid’s Colombian striker Radamael Falcao has been linked with Chelsea ever since he scored a hat-trick against the club in the European Super Cup last summer.

But Hazard has defended Torres saying he is made a scapegoat when the club lose and that critics fail to understand how many chances he creates for his team mates.
