Rafa Benitez Says John Terry Not Guaranteed Place In Chelsea Starting XI

Terry brace against Fulham not enough to secure definite place.

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has risked incurring the wrath of Chelsea fans yet again by insisting that John Terry is not guaranteed a place in the club’s starting line up according to The Daily Mail.

The former England captain was in fine form again during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over their London rivals Fulham.

The centre back put in a majestic display as he helped himself to a brace of goals and also helped the team secure a clean sheet.

The club are now looking forward to a weekend match against Benitez’s former club Liverpool with Chelsea knowing they need to secure all three points as they look to ensure they book a place in next season’s Champions League competition.

Despite the importance of the game to Chelsea, Benitez has insisted that Terry is not guaranteed to play, despite his performance on Wednesday.

Benitez has revealed that Terry could find himself back on the bench as the Spanish boss tries to juggle his squad around their domestic and European commitments.

“He has to be happy, scoring goals,” Benitez said. “Everyone is.”

“It’s good for him and the team. I’m really pleased because it was a good performance.

“I prefer these problems [of whether to leave him out]. I told the players before it is important that they have to be ready.

“We have eight or nine games to play and everyone has to be on his toes and ready to play and perform.

“We will try to stay in the top three and we have the Europa League as well. We want to compete in both competitions.”
