Real Madrid drop interest in Colombian hitman.

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is now apparently free to join Chelsea after Real Madrid dropped their interest in signing him, according to The Express.

The Premier League side had long been thought of as favourites to land the Colombian international all season with rumours of a secret meeting taking place between the two all but confirming the deal, but Chelsea now find themselves with a clear run to the player even after Faustino Asprilla urged the 27-year-old to join Manchester United instead.

Real Madrid, who had also been linked with a move for their cross city rivals star man, have now apparently dropped their interest after baulking at the players wage demands.

Falcao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was apparently willing to negotiate for anything lower and now any move to the Santiago Bernabeu is now dead in the water after the club refused to meet his £6.7million pay packet.

Real are reportedly in the process of a summer clear out with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and even Sergio Ramos potentially heading for the exit.

This will come as great news to Chelsea as they still lack an out and out goalscorer with Torres, improved as he may be, still not finding the net consistently enough and Demba Ba still finding his feet.
