Irish goalkeeper ready to leave Villa Park.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has revealed that he is set to leave the club according to Sky Sports.
The Irish stopper has found himself increasingly marginalised at the club in recent years. He has lost the number one gloves to American stopper Brad Guzan and looks unlikely to reclaim them any time soon after Guzan’s impressive performances this season.
The 37 year old recently held talks with Villa boss Paul Lambert, who told Given he would not stand in his way should he wish to leave.
Given still has three years left to run on his current deal but is desperate to secure first team football as he reaches the latter stages of his career.
Given started just two Premier League games during the previous campaign but the former Newcastle United and Manchester City goalkeeper still believes he has what it takes to keep goal at the highest level.
There are likely to be no shortage of suitors for Given who is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to have played in the Premier League.
A whole number of teams are likely to show interest in Given with Lambert unlikely to demand a very big, if any, transfer fee for the goalkeeper.
