Chelsea defender David Luiz has waved off the rumours linking him with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a fine season in west London and has been a reported target for the Catalan club recently who look to rebuild their squad in order to mount a stronger challenge for the Champions League next term after being dumped out of the semi final this time around by Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian international, who usually operates at centre-back but was deployed in midfield at times by outgoing Blues boss Rafa Benitez, will cause a serious selection headache for the new Chelsea manager, but Barca are looking to him to plug the gaps in their defence.

However, despite the persistent links, Luiz has moved to deny the speculation by saying: “My objective is to be happy and this is possible playing always in a team that controls the ball.

“Barcelona is the team that has developed the best football in the last few years.

“I know Barca were interested in my services in the past but now I do not have any news.”

Luiz has scored seven times in 57 appearances across all competitions this season.
