Frenchman’s defender has head turned by Chelsea.
Porto centre back Eliaquim Mangala has admitted that he has been flattered by reports linking him with a summer move to Premier League giants Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old is said to be on the wish list of prospective new manager Jose Mourinho, who is the hot favourite to take over again at Stamford Bridge, and is expected to launch a bid to bring the Frenchman in when he resumes office.
Earlier this week Porto told Chelsea that they’d have to cough up £30 million to prize him away from the club but Mangala admits the only stumbling block to any deal could be his desire for regular football, with Chelsea already well stocked at the back.
John Terry, David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic can all play at the heart of the defence, meaning Mangala may have to be patient if he moves to Stamford Bridge.
However, he has confessed to being flattered by the links nonetheless.
“It’s flattering because Chelsea are a great club and Mourinho is a great coach,” he said.
“I intended to stay in Porto but you never know what will happen in football, especially when big clubs are involved.
“At Porto I play every week and I am involved in the title fight and the Champions League. And that is important to me.”
