Aston Villa midfielder Brett Holman is said to be considering his options after a difficult maiden season with the Midlands club, according to Sky Sports.

The 29-year-old signed for the Villans last year for former boss Alex McLeish, however, a managerial change over the summer saw him in and out of Paul Lambert’s plans despite the Australian international getting off to a bright start in Birmingham.

The former AZ Alkmaar midfielder has managed just 29 appearances in claret and blue this season, with only six coming since December and he has now admitted that he needs to think a little more deeply about his situation.

With the World Cup coming next year, Holman knows that he needs to be playing regular first team football in order to be in contention of a place with the Australian national side, though they must get there first.

Villa made a strong finish to the season and Holman found himself behind in the pecking order to a number of the side’s young stars and he has admitted that a move could be on the cards this summer.

“I’ll knuckle down for the next two and a half weeks, then the future comes in,” he said.

“Maybe I have to make a decision. Maybe not. It all depends on what happens at Villa. If something needs changing, then a change will be made.”
