Jose Mourinho is ready to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Juventus for the signature of Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic according to The Times.

The Special One finally completed his return to Chelsea on Monday in what was one of football’s worst kept secrets.

Mourinho’s work has begun straight away with the club in need of a quality striker if they are to re-establish themselves amongst the dominant forces in European football.

Fernando Torres has failed to convincingly stake a claim that he is able to lead the line at Chelsea and question marks remain over Demba Ba. Young Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku is highly rated by the Chelsea hierarchy but he is considered a player for the future and is likely to be sent out on loan for the current campaign.

That is likely to prompt Mourinho into the transfer market, with the Portuguese boss reportedly having identified Jovetic as the man to fire Chelsea to glory.

Arsenal and Juventus had been favourites to sign the forward but the pair have reportedly withdrawn from negotiations after declaring themselves unwilling to meet Fiorentina’s £25 million asking price.

That is no problem for Mourinho has been told he will be given the backing of Roman Abramovich’s millions during the summer transfer window.
