Villa hoping to put potential suitors off with high asking price.
Aston Villa have slapped a whopping £40 million price tag on Christian Benteke according to The Mirror.
The Belgian youngster has become one of the hottest properties in Premier League football after a highly impressive debut season.
Benteke arrived at Villa last summer from Belgian side Genk in a deal worth £8 million but the player’s value has since rocketed after he netted nineteen times in the league last season.
His form has not gone unnoticed with a number of top clubs thought to be monitoring his availability.
Tottenham are known to be keen on Beneteke with Spurs boss Andre Vilas-Boas keen to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer.
Arsenal are also thought to be ready to provide competition for the player’s signature. There is interest from abroad to, with reports suggesting that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has identified Benteke as the ideal replacement for the Monaco-bound Radamel Falcao.
But Villa are determined to build a team around Benteke and are hoping to persuade the player his future lies in the Midlands.
They face a battle on their hands to keep him though with Benteke having made encouraging noises to potential suitors about a move away from Villa Park. Benteke is reportedly keen to join a bigger team as he looks to establish himself in the Belgian national team ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
