Florent Malouda, released by Chelsea yesterday, could be a summer target for Turkish giants Galatasaray, CaughtOffside understands.

The 32-year-old has spent the last year frozen out at Stamford Bridge, being made to train with the club’s Under-21s after being told he would not be part of the Blues’ first-team plans under both Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez.

His exit was finally confirmed yesterday, bringing an end to a good career for the former Lyon man in the Premier League. During his time at Chelsea, Malouda won the 2009/10 Premier League title, three FA Cups, and the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in what turned out to be his last appearance for the club. In total, he managed 45 goals and 44 assists in 220 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club.

He will join former Blues team-mate Didier Drogba in Turkey, who was one of two high profile sigings for the club in January, the other being Dutch midfielder Welsey Sneijder from Inter Milan.

Galatasaray have been tipped to bring in more big names this summer, and have been linked with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov of Fulham, Arsenal pair Lukas Podolski and Gervinho, as well as Malouda’s Chelsea team-mate John Terry.

Despite not playing for a year, Malouda should still have a few more years left in him and is seen as a good option by Galatasaray as they look to raise their profile in Europe, though it is not yet clear if he will favour a move to them over a return to France, where he is likely to have several offers.

Galatasaray will also continue their pursuit of Terry, who is unsettled at Chelsea after spending much of the season just gone on the bench, and who is also a target for big-spending French club Monaco.

The newly-promoted Ligue 1 side are said to have made a £7million offer for Terry, and Galatasaray may look to another former Chelsea player William Gallas in defence, after thr 35-year-old was another big name to be released yesterday as he left Tottenham.

Galatasaray themselves may see a star player leave them this summer, as top-scorer Burak Yilmaz has been attracting attention from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal. The 27-year-old was in prolific form this season, particularly in the Champions League, and manager Fatih Terim has admitted he doesn’t hold out too much hope of keeping him.
