Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is close to sealing a deal to sign young pair Eliaquim Mangala and Marco van Ginkel for a combined fee of £28million, according to the Daily Star.

Porto defender Mangala, 22, is a French international who has really caught the eye in Portugal this season, establishing himself as one of the best young defenders in the world.

His displays have also caught the eye of Manchester United, though Mourinho is stepping up his interest in bringing the youngster to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Mangala will cost around £20million and his signing will cast further doubt over the futures of the likes of John Terry and David Luiz, both of whom have been linked with moves away following Mourinho’s return to Chelsea as manager.

Following Mangala will be Dutch international, van Ginkel, 20, who has scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in an impressive season for Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem.

The young midfielder already has one appearance for the senior Netherlands national team, and will cost the Blues around £8million, showing a change in direction from Mourinho, who has previously been known for spending vast amounts of money on already well-established names.
