Stamford Bridge side keen on Schalke teenager.
A number of sources are today claiming that Chelsea have set their sights on Schalke youngster Julian Draxler with Italian source CalcioMercato stating that Jose Mourinho’s side are ready to trigger the German international’s massive €45m (£38m) release clause.
Attacking midfielder Draxler netted 13 goals in all competitions to help his side clinch a top four finish and is now a regular in Joachim Low’s national team set-up and already has over 100 Schalke appearances to his name despite still being three months shy of his 20th birthday.
Given Roman Abramovich’s youthful transfer policy it is entirely possible that the Russian would be ready to splash the cash to land a teenager considered one of the hottest prospects in European football, indeed Draxler could perhaps be considered a long term replacement for Frank Lampard.
Mourinho is sure to receive a hefty transfer warchest from Abramovich and could be interested in Draxler though the fee for the player does seem fairly steep, even in today’s inflated transfer market.
The returning Blues boss may well also feel that the search for a prolific marksman is of paramount importance and may well save the lions share of his transfer budget for this purpose.
