Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has admitted he would love to play in the Premier League again, in an interview with the London Evening Standard.

The Ivorian, who left the Blues on a free transfer for French side Lille last summer, believes there is a special atmosphere in the English game that you can’t get anywhere else.

He also feels the league is still the best in the world, despite some doubts rising after English teams’ poor showings in the Champions League this season.

“Playing in the Premier League was amazing and I want to have that feeling again,” the 27-year-old said.

“It is still the best league in the world. The supporters there are so passionate and know everything about the game. You see fans making fun of their opponents and singing songs and in other places you don’t have that. It gives England an extra edge.”

Kalou’s words will increase speculation of a summer move to Cardiff, who have been linked with a move for him after gaining promotion to the top flight.

Although never a regular starter in his time at Chelsea, Kalou scored 60 goals for the club, and has had an impressive season in France with Lille, scoring 15 goals and providing 6 assists for the Ligue 1 side.

And despite finding himself out of favour at Chelsea, Kalou still keeps an eye out on his old team, and is pleased to see them re-appointing Jose Mourinho as their manager this summer.

“Jose is still the right man for that club. He brings stability wherever he goes and Chelsea need that more than anything.

“He is a leader. He brought the  stability they needed when they won their first trophies with him in 2004.

“He is a winner and will bring that back to the club again.”
