Chelsea are considering making a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema after missing out on their main transfer target this summer, Napoli front man Edinson Cavani.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to land a quality front man to spearhead Chelsea’s attack for next season and had identified Cavani as his number one target but the Blues were unwilling to pay Napoli’s £53 million asking price.

Now, the Uruguay international looks set to move to Paris St Germain, with reports suggesting that the striker has agreed personal terms with the French Champions and will complete the move to Paris this week.

This means that Mourinho is looking for a new target to be Chelsea’s main striker for next season and the Portuguese coach is considering making a move for Benzema, who was the Mourinho’s main striker at Real Madrid.

Benzema has bags of quality and an excellent goal scoring touch, meaning he would probably be a huge success in the Premier League, plus Mourinho is thought to have a good relationship with the Frenchman.

Madrid maybe tempted to sell Benzema as well to fund a possible move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Los Blancos is Suarez preferred destination this summer and the Uruguay international has spent most of the off season flirting with the Spanish giants, saying he “would give his heart and soul” if he were to play for Real.

Suarez won’t come cheap, with Liverpool demanding £40 million for the striker and Real may need to sell players before they can afford to make a move for the striker.

Madrid could demand a transfer fee of around £30 million for Benzema, an amount that would be affordable to Chelsea and a lot less than they would have had to pay had they successfully signed Cavani.

Benzema has a good record under Mourinho at Madrid and the Portuguese coach would hope that the Frenchman could replicate that at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman to may fancy a move to Chelsea as if Madrid are successful in signing Suarez, he is likely to move down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

Benzema wants to play a key role in France’s squad at next summers World Cup and won’t get that unless he is playing regularly, which may not happen if he stays at Madrid so a move to Mourinho’s Chelsea may benefit all parties.
