Cottagers ready to make move for former Tottenham, Sunderland and Charlton striker.
Fulham are preparing to join the race to sign Aston Villa striker Darren Bent according to The Times.
The former England international looks certain to leave Villa Park this summer after finding himself frozen out at the club.
Bent has struggled to make much of an impact on the Villa first team ever since the arrival of Paul Lambert as manager.
Lambert has preferred to play Belgian youngster Christian Benteke ahead of Bent, and appears to believe the two are unable to play together in the same team.
Bent has publically admitted that he is not prepared to spend another season sitting on the bench and, following showdown talks with Lambert, has reportedly been told he is free to find another club.
That is likely to interest a number of Premier League sides, with Bent having a proven goalscoring record at Premier League level.
Newcastle United are thought to be one of the favourites to land Bent’s signature but are currently in negotiations to sign Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis.
That could pave the way for Fulham to swoop in and secure Bent’s services with the player thought to be tempted by a return to the capital.
Villa are thought to be likely to demand around £8 million for Bent, despite the club having signed him for around £24 million.
