The All-Stars head coach also revealed that Graham Zusi and Raul Fernandez will start against AS Roma.

Sporting Kansas City and selected MLS All-Stars head coach Peter Vermes has revealed that Thierry Henry will both start the All-Star game against AS Roma and captain the MLS side.

Vermes has so far kept his cards very close to his chest with regards to the All-Star game, but revealed his choice of skipper during a Google Hangout video chat on Monday.

The choice of Henry is certainly one that makes sense, with the Frenchman far-and-away the league’s highest earner. His worldwide following has been the perfect continuation to the legacy that LA Galaxy’s David Beckham started in 2007.

Henry is no window dressing either. The New York Red Bulls forward has been selected for the MLS Best XI two years in a row, and won the ESPY Award for MLS Best Player earlier this month.

Vermes also confirmed that Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi and FC Dallas’ Raul Fernandez will be amongst the starting XI.

Zusi is a player Vermes knows all too well from their time together at SKC, the midfielder playing a key part in Kansas City’s Lamar Hunt US Open Trophy victory in 2012.

Fernandez, meanwhile, has been enjoying a terrific season with FC Dallas. Whilst his side may currently be sat in sixth in the Western Conference they are only four points off the top spot, and thanks to Fernandez they can boast the seventh best defence in all of the MLS.

The MLS All-Star game will take place Wednesday night at Sporting Park, Kansas City, against AS Roma of Italy’s Serie A.
