Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has confirmed that striker Darren Bent is close to sealing a move to Fulham, according to TeamTalk.

The former Tottenham and Sunderland forward has been linked with a move away from Villa Park all summer, after falling out of favour under Lambert last season.

Despite being the club’s record signing when he joined for £24million in 2011, Bent spent much of last season on the bench after falling down the pecking order behind Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann.

Crystal Palace, Hull City and Newcastle have all shown an interest in the 29-year-old in this transfer window, but a £5million bid from Fulham looks to have sealed his future for next season.

Cottagers boss Martin Jol played down talk that a move was imminent, but Lambert has suggested that Bent has had his medical with his new club and should be confirmed shortly.

“He’s just away down to Fulham,” said the Villa boss.

“I think it’s well-documented now that he’s down there having a medical and that’s the last I’ve heard.”

Bent will be hoping to get his career back on track at Craven Cottage, linking up with his former Spurs manager Martin Jol and old team-mate Dimitar Berbatov.
