Arsenal looked set to find themselves frustrated in the transfer market yet again this summer after reports emerged that PSG were set to enter the race for Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye according to The Independent.

The Gunners have struggled to bring in new players over the last few months despite having been linked to a number of top stars.

Arsenal have been rumoured to be interested in the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Luis Suarez, only for those players to decide to join different clubs, or remain with their current club in the case of Suarez.

Arsenal were thought to be favourites to sign Newcastle midfielder Cabaye after making a £10 million bid for the French international on Monday night.

But that offer was turned down and labelled ‘derisory’ by Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who slammed the timing of the bid.

That could pave the way for a move to Ligue 1 for Cabaye with PSG having come in with a £15 million offer.

The move will test Arsenal’s resolve to spend money in order to attract big name players. Tottenham and Monaco are also thought to be interested in Cabaye which could drive his price up.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure to spend after seeing his side go down to a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on the first game of the season.
