Tottenham are reportedly readying a January move for Chelsea star Juan Mata according to the Daily Express.

Serie A sides Juventus and Napoli are also keen on the 25 year old Spanish international, who has been frozen out of the first team set-up by Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

White Hart Lane manager Andre Villas-Boas was in charge at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea signed Mata from Valencia and the World Cup winner may well be tempted by the chance to reunite with the Portuguese boss.

Though Mata has stressed his desire to fight his way back into the Chelsea starting eleven the continued lack of first team action could well harm the attacking midfielder’s standing in the Spanish national team squad, all the more important given that the 2014 World Cup finals are now less than a year away.

Mata has had two stand-out campaigns at Chelsea since moving to West London, racking up 32 goals and 48 assists in 121 appearances helping his side to clinch Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup triumphs in the process.

However thus far this season Mata has started two of four Premier League fixtures and was subbed around the hour mark on both occasions and was then left out of Mourinho’s starting eleven for the opening Champions League fixture of the season at home to FC Basel.
