Belgium international aggravated the problem at Carrow Road on the weekend.
Aston Villa are anxiously awaiting the results of a scan on key front man Christian Benteke’s hip injury that the Belgium sustained in their Premier League win at Norwich City on Saturday afternoon, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The powerful striker went down clutching his side after an innocuous looking fall just before the break at Carrow Road and after some treatment on the sidelines, Benteke was unable to continue.
The forward had actually gone into the top-flight clash carrying the injury, and Benteke’s slip only served to further aggravate the hip flexor problem.
However, Villa head coach Paul Lambert is still to ascertain the full extent of the injury after the Belgium international went for a scan on Monday, before then being referred to a specialist who will determine just how long Benteke will be out of action for once he has the results back.
“If you look at his injury, he has actually slipped at that moment,” said Lambert.
“I’m not a doctor. We will have to wait until the results come back and speak to the relevant people that we think are the best in that field.
“You are hoping it is going to be pretty quick but you don’t know and I have to wait and see when I get a call later to see what everybody’s thinking.”
Benteke has simply carried on at the start of the new campaign exactly where he left off at the end of last season by banging in the goals for the Premier League strugglers, with the 22-year-old having so far managed to find the back of the net on five occasions in total in the club’s opening five fixtures in all competitions.
