In form middle man would be happy to stay in Midlands.
Aston Villa midfielder Fabien Delph has admitted that he would be more than happy to commit the rest of his career to the club as his rich vein of form continues, Sky Sports reports.
The 23-year-old has now been at Villa Park for four years, but has seen most of that time curtailed by injury and loss of form, but upon Paul Lambert’s arrival last summer he has managed to stay injury free and has kept his spot in the side with a series of dazzling performances that have been among the best of his career.
Lambert, along with several of his peers from other sides, have called for him to be included in the England national set up, but the former Leeds man has admitted that for the time being he is just happy to be playing regularly.
“For me it’s just about playing games, staying fit, helping my team-mates and just repaying people back,” he said.
“I’m sure if I stay fit, which is a big thing for me, then hopefully I might be offered a new contract.
“I’d love to be here for the rest of my career but that’s not up to me.”
Villa’s chief executive Paul Faulkner has confirmed that he is aware of Delph’s situation and added; “Fabian has had a great start to the season, and it’s especially good to see after the injuries he had to overcome at the start of his Villa career.
“In terms of player contracts, we manage these very closely and will make sure we act at the right time in the best interests of the club.”
And Delph admits that he is looking to put his injury ravaged days behind him and paid tribute to chairman Randy Lerner for sticking by him.
“I feel like I went missing for a few years, obviously it’s down to injuries. It’s not something I was happy with,” he said.
“Every time I’ve got injured he’s [Lerner] been positive with me, saying ‘Come on, you can get back fit, push on and you can do well’.
“He’s just believed in me, every time I’ve seen him he’s said nothing but positive stuff to me.
“To be fair, I just love talking so whoever wants to talk to me I’ll have a chit-chat with them!
“It’s always nice to see Randy, you don’t see him that often, but when you do he’s always a gentleman.”
