German international has no deal in place with Spanish giants.
Premier League duo Arsenal and Manchester United have been handed fresh hope in landing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to the Daily Star.
There had been strong rumours that the young German international had agreed a deal in principal with Spanish giants Real Madrid that meant they would hold first refusal over his signature.
However, those rumours have now been denied by the player’s father, which will only serve to heighten the speculation as he is out of contract at the end of the season.
Gundogan’s father Irfan said: “There is no agreement between Gundogan and Real Madrid.”
The 23-year-old is currently out of action as he continues his recovery from a back injury and Gundogan Sr has insisted that a new deal to keep him at the Westfallenstadion is far from a certainty.
“We only put contract negotiations with Dortmund on hold because we did not want to put any extra pressure on him during his lay-off.
“Of course there is a chance that he will renew his contract.”
United boss David Moyes has been keen to make additions to his midfield after missing out on a whole host of stars over the summer and could look to put a deal in place for Gundogan when the transfer window reopens.
