The Barca coach is reportedly keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park and has targeted Veratti as one of his most wanted when the transfer window reopens in January.
Martino has also thought to be targeting Verratti’s teammate Blaise Matuidi, who is also on the radar of Manchester City and Chelsea.
However, it is Verratti who is now the prized asset after seeing his stock rise considerably since making the move from Pescara in the summer of 2012.
The young Italian international helped the Parisians to their first title in seventeen years last term, chipping in with 27 appearances and has been rewarded by collecting four caps for the Azzurri.
Barca sent scouts to watch him in action for PSG in the Champions League against Anderlecht recently and Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo believe that a firm offer could be in the pipeline in the new year.
United have had an eye on the 21-year-old for some time now after failing with a series of high profile bids for midfield players over the summer, and he will probably enter the transfer market with renewed vigour to save himself from missing out again.
