The Blues will apparently need to guarantee Shaw regular first team football if he is to agree a move to the West London club.

The 18 year old has been a regular in the Saints first team this season and has already been capped at Under 21 level and a move to Chelsea would presumably help in his efforts to make it into Roy Hodgson’s senior squad, perhaps even a spot in the England World Cup squad is a possibility if a move to Stamford Bridge is secured in the January transfer window.

Cesar Azpilicueta, usually used at right-back, has filled in at left-back in recent weeks such has been Ashley Cole’s recent fall from grace in the Blues first team set-up.
