Chelsea Agree €15m Deal to Sign Serbian Wonderkid Lazar Markovic

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Serbian youngster Lazar Markovic according to Portuguese source O Jogo via the always excellent Sport Witness.

The 19 year old attacker moved to Benfica in June and has scored three goals in six Primeira Liga starts thus far this season but has long been linked with interest from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are said to have forked out €15m (£12.5m) to land Markovic though one wonders if the forward would move straight to the West London club or perhaps be left at Benfica for the remainder of the season on loan.

Jose Mourinho is no doubt keen to strengthen his squad in January though Markovic may be a little raw for an immediate appearance in the Premier League.

Markovic is considered as one of the hottest prospects in European football and having impressed at Partizan Belgrade the youngster has impressed in Portugal’s top tier.

Mourinho is clearly looking to plan for the future and made intelligent summer moves to capture Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel and Ghana international Christian Atsu.
