The brilliant Spain international’s future with the Blues has once again be put in great doubt after head coach Jose Mourinho hooked the player just eight minutes into the second half of Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League.

And now with the January transfer window open once again for business for the month, speculation has been rife that the 25-year-old’s days as a Chelsea player will soon be over, as the likes of big-spending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, the Serie A duo of Juventus and Inter Milan and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all ready bids to lure Mata away from the Uefa Europa League holders.

Mata’s representatives have asked for an immediate explanation from Chelsea about their treatment of the Spaniard, who has featured in a total of 17 matches in all competitions so far in this campaign, although the majority of those have come via the substitutes’ bench.

However, it is believed that were the Blues to receive an offer in excess of £35m for their playmaker, then they would sanction Mata’s departure from the Bridge in January.
