Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has been linked with countless strikers as he seeks to strengthen an attack that has been missing record signing Andy Carroll all season and a move to bring Ba back to Upton Park has been on the cards for some weeks.

The former Newcastle United man spent six months at West Ham before moving to St James’ Park, netting seven goals in 12 games despite the East London side failing to beat the drop to the Championship.

The Senegal international has barely featured at Chelsea since Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge and may well be looking to secure regular first team football elsewhere but is perhaps unwilling to consider a move to a side battling relegation.

West Ham have scored just 19 goals in 20 Premier League matches thus far this season and sit second from bottom in the Premier League table.
