Serie A outfit Napoli will not make a move for out-of-favour Chelsea wide man Juan Mata during the January transfer window as has previously been thought the case, as the Southern Italian giants do not believe that the Blues will allow their star man to depart Stamford Bridge this month, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

The brilliant Spain international has largely found himself being surplus to requirements so far in this campaign by the west London club, with Mata surprisingly spending the majority of his time warming the substitutes’ bench in the capital.

And as a result, speculation has been rife in recent weeks linking the player with a big-money exit from the Uefa Europa League holders, especially after Mata was seen to react angrily to being substituted by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho early in the second half of the club’s 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League last Wednesday.

However, despite Napoli head coach Rafa Benitez being desperate to be reunited with the little Spaniard, with the two men having previously worked together at Stamford Bridge last season, the Naples-based team are understood not to be confident of being able to persuade Chelsea to allow the playmaker to move to Italy on loan.
