Questions about whether Mata will be sold by the Blues now that the January transfer window has finally reopened once again for business have been surfacing of late, especially after the wide man was given the hook by Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho just ten minutes into the second half of the west London club’s 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s last Wednesday.
The Spain international was seen to react furiously to the Special One’s decision to substitute him, and now it is understood that the player’s father and representative, Juan Snr, is jetting to the capital for urgent discussions with members of the Chelsea hierarchy about his son’s future going forward at the Bridge.
And as a result, it is believed that the situation will be finalised one way or another by the end of this week, with high-flying La Liga outfit Atletico de Madrid believed to be waiting in the wings with an offer to take the 25-year-old on loan until the end of the campaign, with a view to then signing Mata on a permanent deal next summer.
