The West London side are ready to offer £17m for the Serbian international who could offer Jose Mourinho a fresh dimension to Chelsea’s midfield perhaps being seen as a more rounded option to the likes of John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien.
Matic left Chelsea for Benfica in 2011 as part of the deal that saw David Luiz move to the Premier League side and successfully re-ignited his career after a stuttering spell at Stamford Bridge to become a pivotal part of the Lisbon side’s push for a Primeira Liga title.
Last term Matic finished as runner-up in the domestic league and cup competitions as well as seeing Benfica lose to Chelsea in the Europa League and as such he may feel it’s time to move on and a return to Chelsea clearly tempts the rangy midfielder.
