Tottenham will launch a summer move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as the White Hart Lane side look to improve their attack.

CaughtOffside understands White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy is ready to dig deep to once again address the ‘problem area’ of Tottenham’s striking contingent, this following a £50m+ outlay on last summer’s signings Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.

Tim Sherwood has earmarked a move for Stamford Bridge youngster Lukaku and the North London side would be ready to meet the reported £22m price-tag to land the 20 year old.

Lukaku has proven a massive success during loan spells at West Brom and Everton and have more than proven himself capable of making an impact in the Premier League, however Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t appear to see the Belgian as part of his plans and as such may well be ready to sell the forward.

The sale of Juan Mata to Man United in January indicates Chelsea have no qualms about selling to Premier League rivals and Mourinho may feel that his side are far enough clear of their London rivals to not consider Tottenham a title threat and could therefore sanction a sale to Spurs.

Sherwood will lose Jermain Defoe at the end of the month and Levy will look to sell Argentine Lamela, albeit for a fee less than the club record £30m they invested in the former AS Roma man, and then use funds from the sale to cover the majority of the fee for Lukaku.

Tottenham will hope that Lukaku would be amenable to such a move, where he would stand a far better chance of securing regular first team football.

Clearly Sherwood’s chances of persuading Lukaku to join would be greatly enhanced by a Champions League berth.

Lukaku netted 17 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for West Brom last term, a sizable portion of those coming from the bench, and has scored nine in 18 starts this term for the Toffees.
