The San Siro side are looking to strengthen their central midfield options and see the Nigerian international as an ideal summer addition and the 26 year old could well be tempted by a fresh challenge having fallen down the Chelsea pecking order.
Mikel battles the likes of Ramires, Oscar, Frank Lampard and new signing Nemanja Matic for a berth in the centre of Jose Mourinho’s side and has started just nine Premier League fixtures this season.
A move to Italy would see Mikel re-unite with former Blues star Michael Essien, who plays for AC Milan following his move away from Stamford Bridge in January.
Mourinho may well feel he can afford to cash-in on Mikel to help bankroll possible new additions and to help make room for a fresh option to beef up his Chelsea squad.
Mikel moved to Chelsea in June 2006 and has made over 300 appearances for the West London club.
