The experienced Cameroon international is understood to still be furious with the Blues’ head coach Jose Mourinho after the self-styled Special One was caught on camera questioning the striker’s real age in what he believed was an off-the-record conversation with a Swiss businessman.

Mourinho was heard to joke to the billionaire that: “The problem is I like a scorer. I have Eto’o but he is 32, maybe 35, who knows?”

Meanwhile, a former partner of Eto’o’s, Italian waitress Anna Barranca, then went on to claim that the attacker was actually 39 year old.

And now as a result, the player, who turned 33 earlier this month, has decided to leave Stamford Bridge when his one-year contract with the west Londoners runs out at the end of June.

The player then celebrated his birthday by tweeting this poignant message to his followers: “Dear All. Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. It means the world to me. 33. Jesus Christ Age!”
