Anfield side to make big money offer for Benfica starlet.
Liverpool are set to enter the race for highly rated Serbian international Lazar Markovic with the Anfield side ready to offer £20m for the Benfica starlet according to the Sunday People.
Brendan Rodgers will look to beat Chelsea in the race to sign the 20 year old winger, who only moved to Lisbon based side Benfica last summer.
Markovic has impressed in his first season in the Primeira Liga, netting seven goals, and helping his side to the top of the table as well as to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Liverpool are keen to bring in a number of big signings this summer as they prepare for a long awaited Champions League campaign and Rodgers is keen to bring in more effective options in the final third, with a great deal of the burden in that department weighing on the shoulders of strike-pair Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Rodgers may well look to offload Iago Aspas and Fabio Borini to make room for Markovic and it’s unlikely that the Liverpool boss would look to permanently sign Victor Moses after an unsuccessful loan spell.
Markovic may feel it more sensible to move to Liverpool for fear of struggling for an instant impact in the Chelsea first team and he’ll be more than aware of Rodgers willingness to trust to youth.
