Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to freshen up his midfield and have scouted the De Kuip captain, who is likely to be part of Louis van Gaal’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.

This source values Clasie at a very reasonable £6m and would be an excellent addition to a midfield that may well lose the services of veteran Frank Lampard when his contract expires in the summer.

Mourinho has had to make do without Marco van Ginkel for much of the current campaign with the youngster being out with an anterior cruciate ligament and real question marks over his long term fitness.

Though just 22 Clasie has already racked up close to 150 top tier appearances and has seven national team caps to his name and a move for the pint sized battler will adhere to Mourinho’s youthful transfer policy.
