Striker thought he would not be part of the Three Lions’ 30-man squad for Brazil 2014.
West Ham United front man Andy Carroll will be one of England’s seven players on standby for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, despite the giant attacker having flown off to Dubai with his girlfriend on a holiday before Three Lions head coach Roy Hodgson had a chance to speak to him.
The 25-year-old left for the UAE on Sunday immediately after the Hammers’ final Premier League game of the season against champions Manchester City, with his girlfriend Billi Mucklow saying on Facebook: “Dubai bound. There’s no place I’d rather be.”
But that was before Carroll had been told of his inclusion as part of England’s back-up players, although that confusion has now been rectified apparently, with the forward still set to be a reserve.
