Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has secured the backing of Blues owner Roman Abramovich to make significant moves in the summer transfer market.

CaughtOffside understands that the west London side will seek to make a number of high profile signings but will look to balance the cost by offloading many of the club’s current first team squad.

Mourinho’s top target comes in the form of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba with Chelsea ready to meet the Serie A side’s mammoth £65m valuation of the 21 year old French international.

The former Man United man has been a hugely important member of Antonio Conte’s Juventus set-up since arriving in Turin two years ago, playing a pivotal role in back to back Serie A title triumphs and becoming a crucial part of Didier Dechamps’ national team set-up.

The £40m sale of David Luiz to PSG will help fund the move for Pogba, one that Chelsea are confident that Juventus will find too tempting to turn down.

Chelsea are in advanced stage talks to complete the £35m signing of Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa with the Brazilian born Spanish international ready to leave the La Liga title holders this summer, a deal Mourinho wants completed before the World Cup finals get underway.

Costa netted 36 goals in all competitions the last of which came during Atletico Madrid’s Champions League semi-final victory over Chelsea.

The Premier League side are also closing in on a move to sign Costa’s Vicente Calderon team-mate Felipe Luis with Mourinho ready to fork out £18m for the Brazilian having given up on his pursuit of England teenager Luke Shaw.

Luis has had a stand-out campaign at Atletico but is said to be open to a move to Chelsea where he will be able to secure a big pay-rise. The 28 year old will act as a replacement for exit bound veteran Ashley Cole.

In a further move to boost his ailing attack Mourinho will hope to bring in PSG forward Ezequiel Lavezzi with a £22m bid for the Argentine on the table.

The former Napoli man has had an up and down time of it in the French capital and is a player Parc des Princes boss Laurent Blanc is open to selling.

Chelsea will not offer Samuel Eto’o a new deal when his current contract expires in a matter of weeks and both Demba Ba and Fernando Torres will be made available after average campaigns whilst Jose Mourinho will open talks with Romelu Lukaku after the World Cup with regards to the Belgian’s long term future at the club.
