German outfit hope to see off Everton and Spurs in their pursuit of Belgian hitman.

Check in to Belgium vs Algeria

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs has confirmed that the Bundesliga club are interested in signing Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian frontman has two years left to run on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but a summer move appears to be on the cards.

Lukaku spent the past season on loan at Everton, scoring 15 goals in 31 Premier League games, and the Toffees are now hopeful of landing him on a permanent basis.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino is also a keen admirer of the 21-year-old.

However, both clubs may have to compete with Wolfsburg.

Allofs is quoted in the Daily Express as saying: “We are to sign a striker this summer and we have to wait and see which deal will be feasible in the end.

“[Lukaku?] Of course, but we also have other names in mind.”

Lukaku remains hopeful of remaining at Chelsea, but, with Spanish goal machine Diego Costa poised to join from Atletico Madrid, he is likely to be deemed surplus to requirements.

He will hold talks with manager Jose Mourinho to clarify his position after this summer’s World Cup.

Lukaku has been capped 29 times by Belgium at senior international level, scoring nine goals.

He will hope to add to his tally at Brazil 2014, where his side will face Algeria, Russia and South Korea in the group phase.
